World Bank Managing Director for Asia Region, Sri Mulyani said the food crisis engulfing the world makes volatility in food prices increasingly uncertain and left at least 44 million new citizens into the "poor" last year. Even more than one billion people are now forced to sleep in a state of starvation every night.

Sri Mulyani said, "The world is currently facing food crises in the conditions that create volatility or volatility in food prices is causing at least 44 million people since last year into the poor and more than 1 billion people every day to sleep in a state of starvation".

According to Sri Mulyani, the data also include citizens in the Asia - including Indonesia. Hence the World Bank has urged countries in Asia to make a greater investment in agriculture and promptly resolve production problems that exist so that productivity can be maximized and the price of food could be stabilized.

"What the World Bank is to raise or refocus the entire support to countries, especially developing countries to invest in the agricultural sector and reduce the production side constraints. Whether in the form of technology research, slowly or logistics productivity and connectivity. The World Bank together the G-20 working together to formulate measures that could minimize the increase in food prices and volatility before, "said Sri Mulyani.

Due to increasing global food prices, poor households tend to choose cheaper and less nutritious food or forced to reduce health care costs and their education. World Bank data shows in poor countries where the average person spends two thirds of their daily expenses to eat the food price increases could potentially be a challenge of global growth and social stability.

According to the Bureau of Logistics Indonesia rice - which is one of the staple food in Indonesia - starting July 11 was up 25 percent from 6,000 rupiah per liter to 8500 range up to 9,000 rupiah per liter. To meet the daily needs of many citizens of Indonesia are beginning to switch to lower quality rice.
